Born on the banks of the Seine, between Paris and the Normandy coast, Impressionism is much more than an artistic movement: Today, it forms a cornerstone of tourism for Normandy and the Île-de-France region. This artistic legacy transcends mere heritage value: Impressionism is now the most appreciated and recognized art movement in the Western world . This asset represents a powerful driver of renown and tourist appeal for both regions.

The Vélomaritime: a ride right by the sea. If there's one cycling route not to be missed for fans of sea and cliff views, it's the Vélomaritime! In Calvados, this route of greenways and shared paths first crosses the Normandy bocage before following the English Channel for over 200 kilometers. It then offers access to panoramas inaccessible to cars, secluded sandy beaches, and fishing ports with a peaceful and authentic atmosphere.

The Vélomaritime – EuroVelo 4 crosses Calvados along an exceptional coastline, between D-Day landing beaches and legendary seaside resorts.

This unmissable cycle route connects Grandcamp-Maisy to Ouistreham over approximately 80 km, offering a unique panorama blending history, nature and heritage. Cyclists will discover the Bessin coast, the remains of the 1944 D-Day landings, the cliffs of the Côte de Nacre, and the famous Sword Beach in Ouistreham. The route is dotted with charming villages, authentic fishing ports, and local markets, ideal for sampling the flavors of Normandy. Thanks to sections developed as greenways and shared, low-traffic roads, La Vélomaritime offers comfort, safety, and accessibility for all.

Each stage invites relaxation, with numerous opportunities to stop and visit museums, natural sites, or enjoy the sea. The cycle route is ideal for an active holiday with family or friends, offering panoramic views of iconic and listed landmarks. Easily accessible by train from Paris, it's the perfect starting point for an adventure along the Normandy coastline.

At the D-Day landing sites

From Grandcamp-Maisy to Ouistreham, the Vélomaritime cycle route takes in the stunning natural landscape and highlights the D-Day landing beaches. It's easy to stop along the way at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, in front of the caissons of the artificial harbor at Arromanches, at the Longues-sur-Mer battery, at the Douvres-la-Délivrande Radar Station, or on the legendary Pegasus Bridge at Ranville.

Long stretches of fine sandy beaches, lively seaside resorts, and elegant villas await! I almost forgot: you won't be short of sweet or savory breaks along your journey! If you like oysters, you can sample the fine varieties from Isigny or Asnelles and enjoy a meal in Courseulles-sur-Mer. You'll also come across several artisanal producers of local products: Isigny caramels, Asnelles shortbread, the famous Cabourg madeleine…

LES JARDINS DE CASTILLON

L'histoire commence en 1975 quand Colette et Hubert décident de racheter une pépinière de plantes vivaces. C'est le point de départ d'une aventure avec le lancement d'une pépinière de plantes rares. En 1985, ils créent un premier jardin pour faire partager leur passion dans un cadre merveilleux. En 1999, un deuxième jardin voit le jour, très différent du premier. Ces deux jardins se complètent et permettent aux visiteurs de trouver une très grande gamme de végétaux alliée à un magnifique environnement.

Le premier jardin en pente douce se compose de huit jardins ou « chambres » clos qui possèdent chacun une atmosphère personnelle : jardin d'eau, allées fleuries, jardin oriental, jardins de senteurs, pergola, etc.
Le deuxième jardin oscille entre le type italianisant avec ses ifs taillés et ses trois terrasses successives et le type «à la française » avec ses bordures de buis et son ordonnancement géométrique aboutissant à un labyrinthe.
Une superbe plate-bande de graminées subtilement mise en scène donne enfin une atmosphère orientale avec rochers et pins miniatures.
La visite s'achève par la pépinière où le visiteur peut trouver et acheter les plantes de son choix.

Du 1er mai au 15 octobre, du mardi au samedi de 14h00 à 17h30 ; Les dimanches et jours fériés, de 14h30 à 17h30 en juin, juillet et août. Possibilité de visites sur rendez-vous.

Le contre-la-montre individuel du Tour de France passera le 9 juillet par Colomby-Anguerny, petit village au nord de Caen.

En détail :

Le top départ de la journée sera donné à Caen, devant la Tour Leroy.

Ensuite, le trajet est le suivant : l'Université, le Jardin des plantes, la Colline aux Oiseaux et le Mémorial.

Puis, les coureurs traverseront les communes de Saint-Contest, Cambes-en-plaine, Colomby-Anguerny, Thaon, Cairon, Rosel et Gruchy.

L'arrivée est prévue à Caen, place Foch, à côté de la Prairie.

Le légendaire Belem sera l'un des 48 gréements présents à Caen pour célébrer le Week-end Maritime du Millénaire du 27 au 29 juin.
